A free online service has launched to help advisers promote their service, be rated on their performance and credentials, as well as monitor clients' satisfaction levels and behaviour.

The Adviser Ratings service will also provide a forum for clients to rate and comment on their advisers, who can also be found through a locator and publish their qualifications, experience and expertise, memberships of industry bodies and compliance standards.

The website, www.adviserratings.com.au, has listed over 18,000 advisers across Australia and features an adviser and client forum.

The move to provide ratings and reviews of advisers has been the subject of briefings to a range of stakeholders, including politicians, industry bodies, dealer groups/licensees, many of whom believe it will be a game changer for the financial planning industry.

Principal of Adviser Ratings, Mr Angus Woods, said "our ratings and review service features strict controls, with advisers given the opportunity to promote themselves and monitor their clients' attitudes toward them.

"Advisers can screen and respond to negative reviews and ratings before they are published on our closely monitored website, providing them with strong protection", he added.

The service will rate the advisers through a series of questions about their qualifications, whilst also providing a location directory where they can be found by potential clients.

The Adviser Ratings team features finance and consumer experts, led by Mr Woods, who was previously CFO of Virgin Money and has 20 years of experience in the finance industry, and consumer advocate Christopher Zinn.

Mr Zinn said "We aim to make financial advice more accessible and affordable, as well as more accountable, by fostering integrity, trust and transparency.

"We have created the adviser rating scores to help consumers navigate the variable around the quality of advice dispensed", he concluded.
