John Hockey

Growing up in regional WA (Esperance), experiencing boarding school in Perth, I moved to Sydney to start my career in financial markets in 1985 as an Investment Banker, with Michell NBD (who merged with First Chicago NBD and then with Bank One). I moved to Adelaide to head up Bain Refco's FX operations and later Ord Westpac, then onto being State Manager of AAP Reuters which was followed by a brief stint in Melbourne as Regional Manager of Dow Jones Telerate before moving back to Adelaide as a Stock broker. All the while increasing my knowledge in financial markets which took me on to to start Financial Planning in May 2001 as I continue to do so today.

In 2007, I joined Australian Unity Personal Financial Services Dealer Group as I felt they met my needs, being non-bank aligned and having Community roots back to 1840 when one of their forebears Manchester Unity was established as a friendly society whose purpose was to provide assistance to members who suffered financial hardship. It was a service based on mutual trust and dependability and it is an ideal Australian Unity still holds true today.
