Money has always made sense to me. In high school I lent it to kids who wanted to buy something from the canteen, and charged them interest. I turned a $4 an hour KFC job into my first house deposit at 19, and was mortgage-free by 33.
So, yes, no surprise that I’m a financial planner.
For 18 years I’ve helped thousands of people find financial security. I specialise in the long game—retirement planning—but what I really give you is peace of mind. I’m that person a stranger trusts with their life story, money and future happiness.
My job is to be a personal trainer for your finances. I get them in the best shape possible, get you on track, keep you accountable as you hit goals.
What I do well is listen to what you want, then build a strong strategy to make it happen. It’s about your dreams. I give you simple language and service customised to what makes you tick. You won’t get jargon or anybody else’s agenda or judgement.
I help you make money and keep it.
For 25 years, my career has revolved around money (although I studied psychology at uni!) As a graduate I was recruited by a big four bank and worked my way to branch manager with a team of 10, loan book of $50 million and happy customers who loved that I kept my word they would be able to buy a house.
Moving into financial planning to make even more of an impact was a natural progression.
Why? I like a challenge. I want to know I can add value. I love working with people over the long term, building a plan that makes a difference so they can achieve financial freedom, independence and security. It’s so rewarding when someone thinks they have to work forever and never retire and you help them create a different life.
The biggest thing I do for people is take away the stress and burden of worrying about their financial situation. That’s my job. I have this habit of waking at 3am and checking the Dow Jones—true story. My aim is to take that away from people so they can live a comfortable retirement and concentrate on the things they want to do.
I get asked sometimes what a financial adviser spends money on. For me, it’s travel with my husband and three sons, and Motorbikes. I’ve ridden motorbikes since I was 10. But time is just as precious to me as money. I spend mine coaching a local basketball team and I’m a school council president who was asked to stay on even after my kids had left! Giving back to the community lights me up.
